EDCI 5264 - Comprehending Processes & Reading in the Content Areas
3 credit, graduate level
Description: This course examines teaching and learning strategies for content area reading in middle and secondary classrooms. The emphasis is on the use of practical instructional strategies, learning activities, and aides to prepare students with the skills necessary to read, comprehend, and react to appropriate instructional materials in a given subject area. Thus, the focus of content literacy instruction is on reading to learn, rather than learning to read. Although the course is part of the Virginia Tech Alternative Licensure Professional Studies program, it contains valuable information for teachers at any level from pre-K through higher education.
Delivery: 100% Online. Course can be taken from any computer anywhere in the world. There are no scheduled meeting times.

Notes: This course fills a core requirement for the Licensure Program in Alternative Licensure Professional Studies.
