EDCI 5264 - Comprehending Processes & Reading in the Content Areas

| Description: This course examines teaching and learning strategies for content area reading in middle and secondary classrooms. The emphasis is on the use of practical instructional strategies, learning activities, and aides to prepare students with the skills necessary to read, comprehend, and react to appropriate instructional materials in a given subject area. Thus, the focus of content literacy instruction is on reading to learn, rather than learning to read. Although the course is part of the Virginia Tech Alternative Licensure Professional Studies program, it contains valuable information for teachers at any level from pre-K through higher education. |
